Email from Nick Baker (14th Feb):

Hi guys

I know David is looking for a (long) weekend event in September, and I would
like to make a suggestion, and see if there is any interest.

If you remember a couple of years ago we rode a couple of the Alps.......!!!

I am suggesting that The Wheelers could ride the main part of Stage 14
(Sunday 22nd July Tour de France).... However we would do this on Saturday
15th September (This does involve a 2000 meter Col). If there is sufficient
interest I can progress my enquiries and show costing for flights etc.

At the minute flights are ranging from £50 return (wed to wed) ......to £90
return (wed to sun)..... but these prices will alter with time and
availability.

Bear in mind accommodation is flexible and people/ smaller groups can fly
out at different times for those who may want to stay longer/shorter

Have a think and chat and I will see you all on Sundays ride.

Nick

PS
I notice a few names not on the distribution can you please pass on to
anybody that has been missed.

Email from Nick (19th Feb):

Hi guys

Just to clarify.... I was actually suggesting a long weekend probably Wednesday to Sunday, however the situation is very fluid, and some may prefer to do a Wednesday to Wednesday, some Friday to Sunday. All of these can be catered for.... It would be quite acceptable to have say 3 smaller groups all arriving on different days..... depending on peoples time and work commitments (Carcasonne airport is only 40 minutes drive, so a pick up can be arranged)... The important thing is to all be there for the big ride on the Saturday.

The thing about the budget airlines is to book early, as the prices rise the nearer you get to the event. Flights are available from both East Midlands and Liverpool, which will cover most days out and back. (these are available on the Ryan air web site)

The ideal would be a group of 12...... however I can accommodate for up to 14.

24-2-07 email from Simon:

Hi
Just to let you know that Claire is having a bit of a problem with booking the bikes on the flight, she has been trying to get them booked on since November on a weekly basis but kept getting told she was unable to do this till February. The airline have known since the trip was booked that 20 bike’s would be on this trip but have just informed her that the plane type has room for only 10. She is trying to sort out and has gone to the person who actually arranges the planes for flights to complain.

She has been given 2 options from the airline, but is unable to do anything till Steve Green is back from holiday (7th march, I think) as he is the lead name on the booking.

The 1st option is 10 bikes going from East Midlands the day before and returning 24hrs earlier from Palma (the airline has offered to pay for all storage cost’s) the other option is to transfer to a night flight from Manchester and the bikes travel with us!

I thought I would let you know as I know some of you would be booking airport car parking and lifts to the airport (one the options may be a change of flights).

If anything happens before Steve returns I will let you all know.

Lukas, could you put a message on the Website; as I don’t have all the e mail addresses of people going to Majorca; asking people not to book any parking at East Midlands till Steve Green returns from his holiday just in case we need to change to Manchester. Cheers.

Regards,
Simon
